Hello, everyone and welcome to the Career Sequel podcast. I’m your host, Dr. Lee Koles - and I have a question for you: Did you begin your work life doing a job that was perfect for you? And - if so, are you living happily ever after doing that right now?

Since you’re listening to this podcast, I’m guessing that this isn’t your story. It isn’t mine.

It wasn’t my story either. I was a psychology major who was sick of psychology, who fell into a job doing health care research.

The spoiler is that this job was not for me. It was a great company. With fantastic people. Doing cutting edge research. And it was not a fit. Which made me feel lousy. And inadequate. And not-quite-smart-enough.

It definitely had me wondering if I could ever find a job that felt good - that felt like me.

Have you ever felt this way?

If you have, or if you’re feeling this way right now, I have some inspiration coming right up for you.

I’m really excited for you to meet this week’s guest. His name is Nihal Kattar, he is the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Coordinator at the ProMedica Health System in Toledo, Ohio - and he is my former client!

Nihal has an inspiring and extremely relatable career story that begins with uncertainty and ends with a dream job.

When Nihal and I met, he was about 4 years out of college with a degree in Sport Industry. Nihal worked in Sports Management, Higher Education and Hospital Administration, but knew there was something MORE that he wanted to achieve and contribute - he just couldn’t figure out exactly what that was.

Nihal is going to share his career story - one of doubt and second-guessing his purpose before intentionally taking a pause to get strategic in his job search.

He has great insight into breaking into a career in the diversity, equity and inclusion space. Best of all, Nihal is going to shed light on the variety of career options in this industry - things that may align with YOUR strengths, skills and experience.
